  • Orakei Sea Scouts are based on the edge of Orakei Basin and have been operating for nearly 75 years, teaching generations of children aged 6-15years a love of the sea and sailing. They offer a welcoming, inclusive and safe environment for young people to learn new skills, be introduced to the great outdoors, develop their individual potential and feel a sense of pride, confidence and belonging.

As well as water-based activities which include sailing, rowing and kayaking, they offer traditional land scouting activities such as hiking, camping and pioneering.

Orakei Sea Scouts also participates in the Scouting New Zealand activities, including national scout schools and the tri-annual National Scout Jamboree. There is also a National Sea Scout Regatta, held the year after the Jamboree, which involves ten days of water activities.

The adults involved with Sea Scouts are all volunteers and there is a lot to do! If any locals are looking for a volunteering opportunity and have skills around boat or kayak maintenance, or building or handyman skills to help maintain the building, drains, gutters etc, you would be very welcome to connect with the Sea Scouts!

  • My name is Daniel and I’m a year 13 student at Glendowie College. I moved to Auckland from London in 2023 and am currently trying to make the most out of my time here until I eventually move back for university. I’ve been doing photography for around 5 years and am looking and making it part of my career. I’ve done a couple of shoots for free, however I am now looking at further expanding my portfolio. I am offering some professional photo shoots (sports, events, home interiors etc) for a reasonable price. If you are interested feel free to get in touch.

    Kind regards.

Volunteering and Leadership

  • We harness the power of community, through connecting adult volunteers with tamariki in their own communities. BBBS Auckland provides children aged 6-12 with a professionally supported mentoring relationship. We match children with a volunteer mentor who will be a positive role model and support them as they navigate growing up.

Becoming a mentor to a child for a minimum of 12 months or more within your community. The commitment involves one/two hours a week, the volunteer will receive monthly support from a trained professional and will go through training, interviewing and police vetting for the safety of the match.

  • Children of people in prison are the most vulnerable in our community. Pillars volunteers supports them in two main ways:

  • St Chads offers Scouting activities for children and young people aged 5-18. These include lots of outdoor activities such as camping, tramping, orienteering and navigation, pioneering - building of structures and problem-solving, water-based activities, cooking, as well as activities such as arts, crafts and games.

Our sessions help young people to discover and learn skills, try new things, work individually and as part of a team, and develop leadership.

Volunteering opportunities include helping with a weekly section night (1-2 hours depending on the age group) and helping to plan/organise activities, being part of the Group Committee, and helping behind the scenes with administration. Please note as this involves working with children, police vetting is required (this is undertaken through Scouts New Zealand).
