Free Introduction to Composting Workshop – Kohimarama
Join Ali at Selwyn College for a free composting basics workshop. You’ll learn how three simple composting systems work and which one suits your home and garden best.
This workshop will cover traditional cold composting bins, worm farms, and Bokashi buckets. Participants will discover what to compost, how to avoid common mistakes, and how easy composting can be.
All participants receive a 50% discount voucher to order a compost system through our website, with delivery straight to their door. They will also receive a free rat trap to help manage pests.
Learning Outcomes:
Understand the benefits of composting for soil health and waste reduction.
Identify which food scraps and materials can and cannot be composted.
Learn how to set up and maintain a cold compost bin, worm farm, or Bokashi system.
Gain practical skills to troubleshoot common composting problems (odour, pests, moisture balance).
Auckland Council supports this workshop, and Compost Collective delivers it as part of our goal to reduce food waste and build healthy soils.

Active Apirana weed workshop
Join the movement to restore our native bush. Part of the joy of mountain biking is the connection to nature, and now you can help create the incredible native environment that the upcoming trails will flow through. Come along to our free pest plant workshop on Wednesday 27 May 2026, from 9:00 am to 11:00 am, meeting at the St Johns Road entrance of Apirana Reserve.
Led by an expert from Auckland Council, you’ll learn how to identify and remove common pest plants from your own backyard and our local community. You’ll also get a first-hand look at where the new mountain bike trails are being built. Please wear suitable clothing for some "bush crashing" as we get stuck in. We know it's a workday, so if you can't make this one, keep an eye out for future sessions to connect with the land and fellow bikers while learning more about the Active Apirana project.

Glendowie Kayak and Clean Up
Come join the Tāmaki Estuary Protection Society and Mountains to Sea Conservation Trust to explore the Tāmaki Estuary in partnership Auckland Sea Kayaks.
Mountains to Sea Conservation Trust is exploring Glendowie Stream for whitebait spawning - learn about these native fish and how they travel through Tāmaki River into Glendowie Stream and back again!
Tāmaki Estuary Protection Society will run a hands-on litter clean up, where you can explore the estuarine coastline and help remove damaging rubbish.
This event is generously funded by Auckland Council.

On the Awa – Explore Tāmaki Estuary by kayak with Mountains to Sea Conservation Trust and Auckland Sea Kayaks . Learn about waterway protection, observe local wildlife, and hear about the Glendowie Īnanga Spawning Project.
� On the Land – After exploring on kayak, join Tāmaki Estuary Protection Society for a coastline litter clean up and give back to your local natural environment.
Weather call -
Sea conditions permitting - we will run with light rain. A final weather call will be made the afternoon prior to the event. Cancellation due to weather will be communicated via email and Eventbrite.
Registrations -
Registrations are essential, and spots are limited.
Children younger than 7 will not be able to participate in the kayaking activity but all ages are welcome to participate in the litter clean up.
Children aged 7-13 need to have a confident adult over 18 in the back of their kayak. Children under 16 need an adult companion.
Swimming ability is required for the kayaking activity.
Please note that the maximum weight for the sea kayaks is 120kg per person.
Please only register for the kayaking if you can commit to the full 3hr timeslot, expect to spend 1hr kayaking and 1hr doing litter cleanup.
Early access codes for residents in the Ōrākei Local Board area will be circulated to local pages or email anastasia@mountainstosea.org.nz to access (please reference the suburb you live in). Otherwise all remaining tickets will go live on Monday 26th April.

Mountains to Sea Conservation Trust runs a series of free and subsidised events over the summer months - we rely on your support to make them happen. We appreciate donations, either cash/eftpos on the day, online or by giving a koha of your time volunteering at a future event.
Cancellation policy -
If you give less than 24 hrs notice when cancelling your registration or you no show without a valid excuse (i.e COVID, or other illness/emergency) then you may be sent an invoice of $20 per person. This is to ensure spaces do not go to waste and that people do not miss out on attending this free event

Visit us in this beautiful, mature food forest in our 1/3 acre in the suburb of St John. Let me take you on a tour around the vege garden, meadow, secret grove and the productive food forest. I’ll show you our chickens, berry cage and greenhouse. Then we’ll pick fresh herbs and sample delicious herbal teas.

There are a few (5) steps to enter and exit the food forest, and mulched paths, so not suitable for walking frames.
