Supporting Rainbow asylum seekers and refugees in Aotearoa

Learn about practical ways to support Rainbow refugees and asylum seekers living in Aotearoa.

Rainbow Path is a community group created by and for Rainbow refugees and asylum seekers living in Aotearoa. This 18 November event is the second of two information sessions we are running, based on the combined experiences of our members.

We will focus on practical and empowering ways to support Rainbow asylum seekers and refugees living here, including:

  • the support we need at different stages of the asylum and resettlement processes

  • accessing financial support, healthcare, education and employment and

  • limited options for changing name and/or gender markers on some documents.

This session will include presentations as well as time for breakout discussions and to ask questions. It is free and is designed for Rainbow people and Rainbow community organisations. Other community organisations that support and respect the rights of Rainbow people, asylum seekers and refugees are also welcome to attend.

People will need to book a free ticket to register. You can also put questions for the session on your registration form. We will email the online link to people who have registered, a few days before the session.

Our first information session on 29 October is called Being Rainbow refugees and asylum seekers in Aotearoa. It is a webinar about our diverse experiences navigating the asylum process and resettlement in Aotearoa including the challenges we face and things that are important for us to feel safe and that we belong here. There is a separate registration link for that session: https://www.eventbrite.co.nz/e/1791881669309?aff=oddtdtcreator.

If you are interested in supporting Rainbow asylum seekers and refugees, it will be helpful to attend both sessions.
